ADOPTING A FRIEND; Being a responsible pet owner is more than providing food, water and shelter. A Lab is a lifetime commitment and should not be taken lightly, but for that commitment you will receive more unconditional love than you can ever imagine. Labs do not come trained and all knowing, they need to be taught as a child does, and we are willing to give basic obedience classes for a small fee. Labs are very social and need human contact, so your commitment to this dog will include continued obedience training, proper healthcare, grooming, socialization, quality time, and of course food, water and shelter. At the end of the day you have a friend for life!!!! If you are contacting us to surrender your Lab, please be aware there is a $150.00 surrender fee to help cover expenses of the Lab, ie; food/vet bills, while they are at our rescue. LAB ADOPTION CONTRACT :
CONTRACT:
I understand that by adopting this animal, I agree to comply with the following requirements. I further understand that not to do so will result in repossessing said Lab/Lab mix and forfeiture of all adoption fees. By signing this contract, I am certifying that I am at least 18 years of age, have never been charged with cruelty to animals and have read and understand all requirements and conditions of said adoption.
1.) I will take my new Lab to a veterinarian within seven days of the adoption for a check up and any vaccines needed. If the veterinarian certifies that the animal is not adoptable because of severe illness or abnormalities, I will return the Lab, at my expense, to Lori McRee of Love A Lab-KY Rescue and the rescue will replace it with another Lab if one is available, if not I will be refunded my adoption fee.
2.) I understand that part of being a responsible pet owner is providing proper medical care. If I am advised by the veterinarian that the Lab has any medical needs beyond basic “well-animal” veterinary care and I choose not to return the Lab as stated in clause #1 above, I agree to pay for any medical treatment my new Lab needs. I further agree not to hold the Love A Lab-KY Rescue responsible for this payment nor will I seek a refund of the adoption fee.
3.) I agree to provide my new Lab with yearly vet check-ups, annual vaccinations and proper medical treatment of all illnesses and injuries at my own expense.
4.) I agree to have my Lab spayed or neutered on or before_______________, if the Lab has not been altered already. Failure to do so violates this adoption agreement and the rescue may take possession of the Lab without refund of the adoption fee.
5.) I agree to treat my Lab as a companion and family member, they will be provided with proper food, clean-fresh water, proper medical care, appropriate housing, protection from the heat and cold, a proper exercise schedule and will be kept safe at all times. (fenced yard or on leash while outside, crated while no one is home)
6.) I agree my Lab will be housed indoors at all times except for daily exercise, at no time will my Lab be chained outside continually for more than 1 hour at a time.
7.) I agree my Lab will not be abused in any way, from mental to physical abuse. They will not be trained or used for attack, protection or guarding of property and will never be used in any aspect of dog/animal fighting.
8.) I agree my Lab will wear county dog licenses and rabies tag on their collar as required by local and state law. I agree that my Lab will be on leash and wear its collar and tags at all times when they are off the adopter’s premises.
9.) I agree to closely supervise my Lab while it is with children, for the safety of both the animal and children.
10.) I agree that any time I cannot keep this Lab, I will return it to the Love A Lab-KY Rescue without refund of adoption fee’s and the Lab will not be given away or otherwise disposed of.
11.) I release the Love A Lab-KY Rescue from liability for any damage to property or people that the Lab I adopt may cause.
12.) I agree that Love A Lab-KY Rescue will not be held responsible for medical bills of any unforeseen illnesses or medical conditions that may occur in the lab once adopted.
13.) I agree that without liability, The Love A Lab-KY Rescue may come to my home and inspect the conditions under which the Lab is kept. If in the opinion of the rescue, any condition of this contract has been violated or the Lab is not receiving proper care, the rescue may immediately take possession of the animal with no refund of the adoption fee. I certify that I will be the owner of this animal and that the address below is the address where the Lab will be housed.
